Abstract: The appeal system of the university is the means of relief to uphold the student’s legal rights Focusing on the defects of the appeal system in China, comparative analysis of the appeal system is made between Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the aspects of the members of the Appeal Committee, the rights of the committee, the general procedure of handling appeals and the range of accepting appeals Some suggestions on how to perfect the appeal system of the Chinese universities are put forward: ① Weaken the administrative color of the Appeal Committee; ② Properly strengthen the rights of the Appeal Committee; ③ Give full play to the hearing before coming to the conclusion of punishment; ④ Strictly implement the avoidance system; ⑤ Further extend the scope of students’ appeal in order to protect their various legal rights
