Abstract: Nothingness" is one of the most important categories in Laozi s philosophy. This paper tries to re-explain Laozi s philosophy from the view of "nothingness". "Tao" is the ontology in Laozi s philosophy. It has no figure and no representation. It transcends all substance. It is "nothingness" in essence. "Nothingness" isn t "gas" with no figure , nor is unlimitation. "Nothingness" means transcending all being. It is a kind of metaphysics of negation.
