Key Time of University Students’ Career Choice ——Empirical Analysis Based on Undergraduates’ Grades and Behavior

Abstract: Based on student data from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, regarding college students’ grades in each semester as a measure of human capital, the impact of their college grades on their career key point choice is explored It turns out that not only do significant differences of their grades in each semester among students who make different choices when graduating from university exist, but also the grades can accurately predict their career choice Meanwhile, the second semester grades has the highest predictive rate, which shows the second semester’ grade plays a significant role in guiding undergraduates’ whole learning process and graduation, and thus it is the key time point in career choice The mechanism of this effect and its implication for college career guidance is further analyzed, that is, career planning and career guidance education should begin in the second semester
