Abstract: Based on Darwin′s evolution theory, memetics is a new theory explaining the cultural evolution In recent years, memetics of language has been widely applied into the study of language With the rapid development of Internet, a large number of English network catchphrases come into our life As a special language and cultural phenomenon, the popularity of network catchphrases is driven by strong memes to a great extent To better understand the characteristics of network catchphrases, memetics of language is applied to analyze five elements contained in successful memes of network catchphrases and their replication and transmission forms It can provide a new perspective of understanding the popularity of network catchphrases and  make us further comprehend the development of language
