Abstract: The paper chiefly discusses the connection and difference between the two concepts: "discipline" and "major". On the one hand, there is a very close relation between them, which shows that disciplines are the basis of majors, and majors undertake the function of educating students of disciplines, and both of them have relative stableness. On the other hand, they have distinct their own differences, which are displayed in the following points: composite factors, developing the motive force, setting up principles, the core of development and different tasks. At last, this paper suggests that a mutual promoting relation between disciplines and majors should be established.
