Abstract: In recent years, “thumb literature”, with short messages from cell phones as its carrier, is becoming a new culture phenomenon, which has attracted wide attention from various circles of the society; while “garden path”, as a unique language style, just fits to the requirements of “thumb literature” for novelty and amusement. Based on the analysis of connotation and features of “thumb literature” and “garden path”, this paper described the feasibility of applying “garden path” to “thumb literature” and then put forward some applicable strategies. It is kind of attempt of linguistics research in the new culture background, which is expected to promote the practice of applied linguistics and the construction of “thumb literature”.
