Abstract: by x2 analysis of the using states of the positive forms of existential sentences between two corpora WECCL and WBNC, we found that some present tense clauses are overused while some past tense ones underused. And by analyzing the overall using character, we found that Chinese English majors prefer the present tense clauses. This study can attribute to improve the English teachers and the second language learners’ consciousness of cautiously using this clause, and at the same time have supported the language negative transfer theory and the Language Output Hypothesis.
