Abstract: Development of Informatization has been considered as one benchmark in symbolizing the comprehensive national strength and international competitive force Therefore, Informatization Development Index (IDI) was introduced in the 11th Fiveyear Plan for National Economic and Social Development to evaluate and monitor the process of the realization of the overall goal The IDI summarizes in five aspects the informatization of China in 2008, which, as shown by the statistics, maintains growth compared with previous years Besides, based on the development level of informatization, by categorizing the 31 provinces (including autonomous regions and directly governed municipals) into 5 types, comparison is made on their general index and classification index The results show that there is large disparity among these provinces, which is exhibited by unbalanced regional development and the existence of digital divide As regards the application of information technology and the infrastructure construction of informatization, this article proposes to proactively transform the way of economic growth so as to enhance the integration of industrialization and informatization
