Abstract: On the basis of comprehensively sorting out the effect of industrial agglomeration and R&D investment on environmental pollution, the relationship among industrial agglomeration, R&D investment and environmental pollution is empirically investigated by using panel data related industry of 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2016. The results show that the level of industrial agglomeration and R&D investment have a significant reverse inhibition effect on environmental pollution, but both of them are difficult to play a coordinated effect on the inhibition of environmental pollution. The nonlinear test results show that the excessive pursuit of the improvement of industrial agglomeration scale will increase the consumption of environment. With the enhancement of R&D investment intensity, the inhibition effect of industrial agglomeration on environmental pollution shows a fluctuating trend of first decreasing and then increasing. Therefore, attention should be paid to the improvement of industrial agglomeration quality, and the relationship among industrial agglomeration, R&D investment and environmental pollution should be dealt with dynamically.
