International Research Advance of New Media Based on Mapping Knowledge Domain

Abstract:

By using a popular visualized software, CiteSpace II, this exploratory research aims at finding out the international research advance of new media based on 459 papers published by SSCI communication journals. It is found that since 2000, new media has been becoming one of the most hotspots in communication field, where USA and UK are the most productive countries and Netherlands is the core country from the perspective of international collaboration; Jenkins H and Castells M are the most highly-cited authors and New Media & Society is the most frequently- cited journal by far now. In terms of research topics, media itself and audience analysis are mainly focused on, and social media has gained the most attention in the last two or three years.
