中国英语学习者汉、英记叙文中倒叙信息时间表征的实证研究

An Empirical Study on Chinese English Learners’ Time Representation of Flashback Information in Chinese and English Narratives

摘要: 采用自定步速阅读和探测-再认范式,考察中国英语学习者对汉语和英语记叙文中倒叙信息的时间表征模式。结果发现:① 学习者在阅读汉语倒叙文时,探测词的阅读时间受到了事件持续时间长短的影响,出现了时间距离效应,支持时间顺序假设;② 学习者在阅读英语倒叙文时,探测词的阅读时间没有受到事件持续时间长短的影响,说明学习者主要依据文本叙述顺序,将倒叙信息整合到事件中,从而支持背景信息假设。整个研究表明:时间顺序假设和背景信息假设各有解释力,母语和外语水平是影响读者对倒叙事件进行时间表征的重要因素。

Abstract: Probe-recognition task is adopted to explore how Chinese English learners represent flashback information in Chinese and English text reading. The results show that: 1)when Chinese English learners read Chinese narrative, the reading time of probe words is influenced by the events duration which supports the chronological hypothesis; 2)when English learners read English narrative, the reading time of probe words is not influenced by the duration of events. It is shown that readers interpret a flashback as providing background information for the situation described before, which supports the background hypothesis. The whole research indicates that language proficiency is an important factor to determine readers’ time representation of flashback events.
