Influence of Contradictory Online Comments on Movie Box Office Revenue

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to find out new characteristics of online comments on box office revenue based on the past research on original contradictory comments and online comments on movies, focusing on the contradictory comments on movies First, based on the research results of previous scholars, a comprehensive model of the impact of online comments on box office revenue was constructed Then, online reviews of different movies were crawled from “Douban movie” website, and SPSS linear regression was used to analyze the impact of the number of online comments, comment length, score variance and contradictory comments on box office revenue The study found that the number of online comments and contradictory comments had a significantly positive impact on box office revenue The length of online comments and score variance did not have a significantly positive impact on box office revenue The results show that the contradiction of online movie comments has a certain impact on box office revenue Through this research, the existing contradictory comments on research of experiential products are supplemented, and the research on the impact of online movie comments on box office revenue is enriched
