A Study on Foreign Language Learning Strategies of Minority Students

Abstract:

The research studies foreign language learning strategies of minority students based on the questionnaires administered to 260 minority students The results demonstrate that: first, students use more compensation strategies than other strategies; and students’ academic achievement is positively correlated with compensation strategies only; second, female students use more memory strategies, cognitive strategies, affective strategies and social strategies than male students; third, there are significant differences between scienceengineering students and art students in the using of social strategies; fourth, students’ ethnic culture and working experience have no influence on their foreign language learning strategies The findings provide a basis for the foreign language education of minority students
