Abstract:

Abstract:Many non-English major learners are poor in their spoken English. They have spent lots of time on English but learning effects are far from satisfactory. Apart from the factor of language environment, the lack of effective strategy training is also a key factor that matters. On account of this, 637  learners are surveyed with a questionnaire and further 40 of them are inquired. It is found that lack of strategy awareness, inadequacy of knowledge of strategy and insufficient use of strategy are the problems that manifest themselves in the process of spoken English acquisition. Therefore, it is suggested in the present study that the teacher should carry out systematic training of all the strategies, especially the use of cognitive strategies, among learners in the hope that the learners are able to improve the effects of after-class autonomous learning in spoken English via the language experimental system and the overall proficiency in spoken English. The agenda and procedure of the training are also referred to in the present thesis.
