Strengthening Service and Support for Depressed College Students#br# —A Case Study of an Engineering College

Abstract: In order to deeply understand and grasp the characteristics of depressed college students and promote the service and support for the depressed college students,the data of 31 depressed college students were collected through the interview with students instructors, and the incidence, treatment and rehabilitation of the students were analyzed. The results showed that the stress events associated with the diagnosis of depression were mainly academic stress and dormitory conflict; depression rates were higher in freshmen and among female college students; nearly half of the students would choose to leave school for treatment while fewer than a quarter of them received systematic drug treatment; comprehensive counseling resources and supporting system in the colleges were essential for the rehabilitation of depressed college students.
