Network Use, Three-child Fertility Intention and Surname—Evidence from Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle

Abstract:  Based on the survey data of 1812 people in marriage and childbearing age in Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, the influence of network use and children’s surname on three-child fertility intention is empirically explored. The study found that network use and children’s surname affected individuals’ three-child fertility intention, and the groups with less frequent network use, high trust in network, approval of taking mothers’ surname and willingness to have more children with mothers’ surname were more likely to have three children; children’s surname plays an intermediary role in the relationship between network use and individuals’ three-child fertility intention. According to the results of the analysis, policy enlightenment on creating positive network environment of three-child fertility, and inclusive view of children with different surnames and children with mothers’ surname is provided.
